Chromite flour Properties and Applications
Chromite Flour is fine powder made from Chromium ore sand by crushing and grinding process. The chrome flour with 46% Cr2O3 is an excellent mineral colorant , refractory, and wear resistance material.
There are several extrordinary properties of 46% Iron chromite flour:
1. Green Color. The chromium element composition of chromite flour is Cr2O3. It is a kind of trivalent chromium(Chromium III). As is well known, Chromium III is an important green mineral pigment. Natural Iron chromite powder is a green mineral pigment that does not require chemical synthesis.
2. High Cr2O3 content. The content of Cr2O3 is not less than 46%. It can effectively exert the excellent properties of chromium trioxide, whether as a pigment or refractory material.
3. High refractory temperature. The melting point of natural chromite is around 2150 ° C, and the sintering temperature is 1850 ° C. As a ceramic or glass pigment, Chrome flour can withstand the high temperature of ceramic or glass kilns without changing its performance. As a coating in the casting process, it can withstand the pouring temperature of steel water.
4. Excellent thermodynamic performance. Chromite flour has good thermal conductivity and thermal shock resistance. Those features are also important factors that cannot be ignored in the fields of ceramic or glass glaze firing and casting. Strong thermal conductivity can quickly dissipate heat, and good thermal shock resistance can prevent sintering explosion and casting crack defects. In addition, chromite flour is also a good refractory casting material. Magnesia chrome refractory bricks with chromite powder serving as slag line material for steel ladles. The bricks can resist high temperature and alkaline slag impact.
5. High hardness and wear resistance. The Mohs hardness of chromite powder is 5.5-6.0, which can enhance the hardness and wear resistance of materials. Therefore, chromite powder can work as a friction material for brake pads, wear-resistant flooring, and other materials.
6. Good chemical stability. Iron chromite powder exhibits good chemical stability at both room temperature and high temperature. It is not easily reacted with other chemicals. This allows it to maintain a long service life in complex industrial environments.
7. Cost and benefit advantages. Chromium ore flour has not undergone chemical synthesis. The production process doesn’t get hexavalent chromium or use more energy due to chemical synthesis methods, making it highly cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
Usage and Application of Chromite flour:
1. Refractory materials: 200 mesh, 270 mesh, and 325 mesh chromite flour is a normal refractory materials such as chrome magnesia bricks. It grains good high-temperature stability and corrosion resistance.
2. Ceramic industry: Chrome flour is a typical pigment for green ceramic glazes to produce various ceramic products that require green coloring. Commonly size for ceramic are 325 mesh and 400 mesh chrome flour.
3. Glass container industry: chromite flour 200#,325# is used as a green coloring agent for sodium calcium glass containers. For example, it is used as a coloring agent for green or olive colored beer bottles, red wine bottles, lighting glass, green glass crafts, and decorative items.
4. Ink and pigment industry: Ultra fine 2000-2500 mesh chromite flour can be used to produce mineral pigments and printing inks.
5. Casting and foundry industry: Chromite flour is a good additive to refractory coating for key parts of sand casting to prevent defects such as sand sticking, cracks, and porosity.
6. Wear resistant coating: Chrome powder is used to make wear-resistant coatings, which can be used as linings for mechanical components, building materials, and chemical equipment to enhance their wear and corrosion resistance. Chrome powder is also a commonly used wear-resistant material for braking and wear-resistant flooring.
For a long time, due to limitations in the processing technology of chromite flour, the available powder fineness often goes with 200#,325#,400#. Particle range is 38-45um or 45-75um. Our company uses a new type of vertical mill to grind chromite with Cr2O3 content of 46-50%. That equipment can produce chromite flour with a fineness of 600-2000 mesh. We believe that its usage will become increasingly widespread.
