Why do customers buy Chromite Sand from China?

Chromite sand, also known as chromite ore sand or Cr Sand, is a mineral product with excellent refractory properties. China’s chrome ore reserves are low, and over 90% of both foundry-grade chromite sand and chemical-grade chromite is imported. Yet, customers in the Asia-Pacific region and other near-ocean regions buy large quantities of foundry-grade chromite sand from China. What are the reasons for this?

First, chromite sand price is highly volatile and low in value, significantly influenced by international chromite prices. Due to high domestic demand for chromite sand in China, domestic chromite manufacturers maintain large inventories, resulting in lower price fluctuations compared to international markets.

Second, shipping chromite ore sand is expensive, and direct imports from South Africa take a long time. For foundries in countries like South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and Russia, stocking up is time-consuming and capital-intensive. Sourcing from China offers shorter delivery times and more flexible stocking cycles.

Third, the production process for foundry-grade chromite sand and chromite powder is simple, but the production line requires continuous operation, which places high demands on power supply. Occasional power shortages in places like South Africa and Zimbabwe affect the supply of chrome ore.

Finally, at our chromite sand plant in China, we implement more stringent drying and desiliconization processes to better meet the quality requirements of chrome sand and powder for industries like casting, ladle drainage, and glass tinting.

Currently, we not only sells to domestic customers but also supply in large quantities to neighboring countries such as Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, India, and Russia. Furthermore, our sales reach extends to countries like Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Peru.
